What started out as a Pandemic-induced Hobby of growing hot peppers in my basement has evolved into an ever-so, slightly larger, yet very small scale operation of hot sauce production.
The name Big Black Dog was inspired by my 190 lb. Great Dane, Mac, who spent countless hours by my side helping to keep me company while my hobby was being born. From germinating seeds, to harvesting crops to bottling sauces, he has been a permanent fixture and loyal confidant.
I wanted a broader term to allow the flexibility of expanding into other areas, like salsas, dry rubs, pickled peppers, etc. While hot sauces being the main focus, I didn't want to pigeonhole the concept. My first choice was Hot Sauce Committee but for obvious reasons to avoid ambiguity due to the already existing and excellent Album by

Ultimately we would like to grow to a size that could sustain a steady operation of sauces and give a portion of the proceeds to a charity like: https://www.servicedogproject.org/

These partnerships often help to enhance the recipient’s quality of life as they attain greater independence. Preference is given to military veterans, first responders and their families.
